When it comes to large windows, Venetian blinds are an elegant and versatile solution. However, for windows that exceed a certain width, it’s often recommended to split the blinds into multiple sections. Here’s why splitting your large Venetian blinds can improve both functionality and longevity, along with some helpful installation tips.

 Why Split Large Venetian Blinds?

1. Better Support and Durability: Large Venetian blinds that are made as one piece are heavier, which puts more strain on the headrail, cords, and slats. Over time, this additional weight can lead to sagging or bowing. Splitting them into smaller sections helps distribute the weight more evenly, ensuring that the blinds function smoothly and last longer.

2. Enhanced Control: Splitting Venetian blinds into multiple sections allows for better light and privacy control. For instance, you can open one section of the blinds while keeping the other closed, giving you more flexibility in adjusting how much light enters the room.

3. Ease of Operation: Large, single-piece Venetian blinds can be difficult to operate. The weight makes lifting, tilting, or lowering them cumbersome. By splitting them, you ensure smoother operation, especially for wider windows.

4. Aesthetic Appeal: Splitting large Venetian blinds doesn’t compromise on style. In fact, it can enhance the visual appeal by maintaining clean, straight lines across the window space without the risk of warping.

5. Prevention of Damage: Over time, the cords and components of a single large blind may wear down more quickly due to the increased weight. Splitting the blinds helps reduce the strain on these components, preventing damage and reducing the need for repairs or replacements.

If you have a wide window and want to split your Venetian blinds for the reasons mentioned above, here’s how to go about it:

1. Measure the Window: Begin by measuring the full width of your window. Depending on the width, decide how many sections you’ll need. Typically, any window wider than 2.1 meters should be split into two or more blinds.

2. Divide the Blinds Evenly: Once you have the total width, divide it into evenly sized sections for each blind. Each blind should have its own headrail, controls, and operating cords or wands for tilting the slats.

3. Install Multiple Blinds: Install each Venetian blind separately, positioning them side by side. Make sure they are aligned properly to ensure a cohesive look.

4. Control Placement: When installing split Venetian blinds, consider the placement of the tilt and lift controls. You can choose to have them on the outer edges of each blind or arrange them in the center for easier access.

Pro Notes

The same method can be applied to all types of window blinds, like Timber Venetian Blinds, Aluminium Venetian Blinds, Roman Blinds, Vertical blinds.
Roller Blinds can follow the same method, however with Roller Blinds you will have a gap between fabrics of about 30mm.

Always remember to include on your order notes that blinds will be sitting side by side, specially for any type of venetian blinds, this way we can ensure that the slats will be equally levelled on blinds sitting on the same window.
